Octant GLM locking: Lock Changes and Rewards
GLM locking in Golem Foundation’s Octant v2 deployment is a non-custodial deposit: you retain ownership of the tokens. Each lock must meet the provider’s minimum to accrue WETH (wrapped ETH), and a reward period funded by the provider must be active. You can increase a lock, partially unlock while retaining the minimum or withdraw the full balance. Withdrawals reduce or stop that lock’s future rewards.
Lock Increases and Withdrawals
Golem Foundation’s v2 locking dashboard supports changes to existing locks. The minimum applies to each lock individually. The lock form displays the required amount when an entry would leave the lock below that minimum.
- Increase lock
- Adds GLM to an existing lock. Reward accrual continues to depend on the provider’s earning requirements and an active funded reward period. The additional deposit does not establish a fixed return.
- Partial unlock
- Removes part of a lock’s GLM and reduces its future rewards. The remaining balance must meet the provider’s minimum for that lock.
- Full unlock
- Withdraws the entire balance and ends future reward accrual for that lock. You can unlock your GLM at any time.
A provider can temporarily pause its locking contract. During a pause, locking and reward claims are unavailable, while withdrawals of locked tokens remain available.
Reward Timing and Calculator Values
Octant v2 reward periods have durations and end dates configured by the provider. A funding round’s Epoch name does not set the reward-period length. The APR label includes the configured period length, so a displayed duration should be read alongside the estimate.
The Calculate rewards simulator treats Total GLM to lock as the total personal-lock balance you want to model, including existing personal locks. Entering only a proposed top-up would model a different balance. The result estimates rewards for a full configured reward period, rather than only the time remaining in the active period. Funding, total earning power and token prices can change the estimate; displayed APR is not a guaranteed return.
Accrued v2 rewards do not expire and can be contributed to compatible funding rounds. Claiming rewards and changing the amount of locked GLM are separate actions.
Ownership, Rewards and Delegation
A lock’s owner and reward claimer can be different addresses. The reward claimer is the wallet entitled to receive that lock’s rewards. For personal locks created through My lock or Lock tokens, the connected wallet is the reward claimer.
The Claim rewards action withdraws claimable rewards to the reward claimer through an on-chain transaction. The action is unavailable when there is no deposit, no claimable reward or the locking contract is paused.
My lock, My rewards and the sidebar rewards card show one automatically selected lock, rather than combined totals across all your locks.
Delegation is available only when the capital provider enables it. A delegatee receives a lock’s voting power while the owner retains ownership of the GLM. The delegatee can be changed through the lock’s Edit action.
Legacy V1 Rules and Migration
Octant v1 used 90-day epochs and required an effective locked balance of at least 100 GLM for rewards. Its calculation used a time-weighted balance. Reducing a lock during an epoch recalibrated that calculation to reflect the smallest locked amount during the epoch. These were v1 rules; v2 uses provider-configured minimums and funded reward periods.
The final v1 allocation window ran from February 18 to March 4, 2026. GLM remaining locked in v1 no longer accrues Individual Rewards. Continuing to earn through Golem Foundation’s deployment requires moving the GLM to v2, where each lock must meet the provider’s minimum and a funded reward period must be active.
Lock Change Checklist
- Confirm the lock is in v2 if continued reward accrual is your aim.
- Check the intended lock’s minimum before choosing a partial or full withdrawal.
- Model the total intended personal-lock balance and read the calculator result as a full-period estimate.
- Confirm the selected lock and its reward claimer before making a reward claim.
FAQ
How Does a Safe Multisig Complete an Octant Lock Change?
Use Golem Foundation’s Octant v2 locking app through Safe Apps. To accept the terms, collect the message signatures your Safe requires, then select Complete acceptance. Locking GLM, increasing a lock, unlocking and claiming rewards create Safe transaction proposals. Each action completes after the required confirmations and on-chain execution; creating a proposal alone does not complete the lock change.
